Addressing Over Current Protection Issues & Expanding the iCUE LINK System Hub to 24 devices

We're excited to announce LINK Hub firmware v2.4 that increases the maximum number of supported devices on iCUE LINK from 7 per port to 12 per port, bringing the total maximum supported devices from 14 to 24 and resolves the flashing red Over Current Protection warning and notification in iCUE. This firmware will help resolve the brightness limitation issue that some may be experiencing since the release of iCUE 5.12.97.

How to Update iCUE LINK System Hub

From the home menu, hover over the iCUE LINK System Hub and click on "Device Settings".

Click on the “Check for Updates” button located next to the firmware version.

How Does the Power Scaling Work?

The new firmware for the LINK System Hub will allow you to connect up to 12 devices per channel. Once you pass a seven device (238 LEDs) soft limit on either channel, the controller will dynamically reduce the brightness in 10% steps to handle the additional power budget required by each additional device up to 12 total. We’ll apply the same brightness step to both channels even if one of the channels is below the seven device soft limit, that way you have uniform brightness across devices.

When you hit the seven device soft limit on either channel, you will correctly receive the “Brightness” warning in iCUE that can then be dismissed or you can adjust your LINK chain appropriately.

If you do not want to have your brightness reduced, simply abide by the previous seven device limit when building your PC. This merely adds the flexibility to choose a slightly easier build path at the expense of full brightness RGB.

Known Issues & Troubleshooting:

Devices Uncontrollable After Firmware Upgrade

If your iCUE installation is not showing all of your LINK hardware after the firmware upgrade, this is likely due to some leftover files not allowing the new device architecture to function correctly and in all observable instances has been resolved with a clean installation of iCUE. We recommend backing up your profiles and using an uninstaller program like RevoUninstaller Free to remove leftover registry entries and orphaned directories.

LCD Wake on Sleep

In rare cases after multiple sleep cycles, it is possible to experience minor connection issues with the AIO LCD screens. If you experience this issue on sleep wake with this firmware, please go to the System Hub device settings and click the "Device Enumeration" button to re-connect the screen.

CPU RPM Warning

In rare cases, we’ve observed that the POST timings on some motherboards are too fast for the controller to provide an RPM and the BIOS will report no CPU fan detected. As long as you can confirm your CPU is getting cooled by making sure temps look fine in BIOS or iCUE and the pump is spinning, you can ignore, bypass, or otherwise disable this warning in BIOS.
