Rapid Trigger for K70 MAX is available via iCUE

In August of 2023, we released the CORSAIR K70 MAX, the first gaming keyboard containing our CORSAIR MGX magnetic switches. Of course, magnetic switches allow for a feature called Rapid Trigger.

So, we decided to create a firmware update to allow any K70 MAX enjoyers to take advantage of this. Initially, it was an open beta, but after a smooth testing phase, it’s no longer in beta, and you can get it via iCUE.

Now, it’s worth noting that there is still some work to be done. Soon you’ll be able to adjust the Rapid Trigger via visual interface in iCUE, which will be a more user friendly way of doing it compared to the keyboard shortcuts detailed below. However, for those who just can’t wait to reap the performance benefits of Rapid Trigger, read on.

WHAT IS RAPID TRIGGER?

Rapid Trigger is a feature whereby the actuation point of each key is dynamically adjusted constantly. Traditionally, normal key switches work as follows: You begin to press the key down, and at a certain point, the keystroke is registered. The key must then return to a certain point before it can be pressed, and another keystroke can be registered.

However, the use of magnetic keyswitches means that we don’t necessarily need to wait for the key to rise to that position before we can use it again. The MGX switches always know how far the key is pressed down in real time, which is why you can choose the actuation points in each software, and it’s what makes Rapid Trigger possible.

With Rapid Trigger enabled, as soon as the key begins to travel upwards, the actuation point is reset, so any downwards movement, from any position will trigger a keystroke. Those who play games like Counter Strike 2 and Valorant will be starting to realize how much this could help with strafing. In fact, any in-game action that requires fast repeating keystrokes can be sped up with Rapid Trigger.

HOW TO ENABLE RAPID TRIGGER

You should note that once the firmware is updated. You need to close iCUE to enable it with the instructions below. So close iCUE, then make sure it’s closed in the system tray, too.

hold Fn and the Win Lock key. (The one that looks like a padlock in the top-left). This will enable rapid trigger.

If you want to adjust the actuation point while in Rapid trigger mode, hold Fn and the Menu key for 2 seconds. (The menu key is the one with a symbol that looks like a sheet of paper with writing on it between Fn and Ctrl.). This will make keys 2 to + light up. simply press Fn + Menu again to exit the settings mode.

  • 2 = .2mm
  • 3 = .3mm
  • 4 = .4mm
  • 5 = .5mm
  • 6 = .6mm
  • 7 = .7mm
  • 8 = .8mm
  • 9 = .9mm
  • 0 = 1.0mm
  • - = 1.1mm
  • + = 1.2mm

These distances, shown in millimeters, correspond to how far the key needs to travel upwards before you can actuate it again. Simply press the setting you want, and the lighting will blink, indicating that the setting is active.

To exit Rapid Trigger mode, press Fn + Win Lock, and the keyboard will return to normal again.
