How to connect CORSAIR RGB fans, controllers, and AIOs

CORSAIR make a lot of products to help you control your RGB and Airflow DIY components. Before the release of iCUE LINK, we used more traditional methods to make everything work together.

To make it a bit easier to understand, we will present you with a couple of example configurations using an iCUE 5000x RGB case. Thess examples should help you to understand the best way of setting up your own wiring.

iCUE 5000x RGB

Example - iCUE 5000x RGB withH150i Elite LCD (XT) and 4x QL120 RGB fans

Lighting Node Core and PWM repeater are included with the iCUE 5000x RGB case.

4x QL120 RGB Fans (3x front and 1x rear exhaust)

With the above wiring guide, you can see how to connect an H150i ELITE LCD XT AIO with 4x QL120 RGB fans. The diagram was designed around this example, but the principles can easily be used for other configurations, too. Here's a breakdown of what's going on.

  • The 3x AF120 RGB fans of the AIO, as well as the front 3x QL120 RGB fans are connected to the Commander Core (AIO package contents.)
  • The 4x QL120 RGB fan (No.7) is connected to the Lighting Node Core and the PWM Repeater of the iCUE 5000x RGB case.
  • Most mainboards have 2x USB2.0 header ports, to which the USB Splitter (AIO package contents), as well as the Commander Core is connected.
  • If your mainboard has only one USB2.0 header port, we recommend our internal USB Hub.
  • Finally, the LCD kit is connected to the CPU_FAN port of the mainboard, and all controllers/repeaters are connected to the power supply via the SATA power cable.

If you want to max out the fan capacity of the 5000X case, then you should purchase another 3x QL120 RGB fans. These fans should be installed on the side and increase the total to seven.

Example - iCUE 5000x RGB withH150i Elite LCD (XT) and 7x QL120 RGB fans

The Commander Core XT replaces the Lighting Node Core as well as the PWM Repeater

7x QL120 RGB Fans (3x font / 3x side / 1x rear exhaust)

Here's a breakdown of what's going on here.

  • The 3x AF120 RGB fans of the AIO, as well as the rear 1x QL120 RGB fan (No.4*) are connected to the Commander Core (AIO - package contents).
  • The Commander Core XT replaces the Lighting Node Core and the PWM Repeater.
  • The Lighting Node Core and the PWM Repeater are no longer needed.
  • The 3x QL120 RGB fans (Nos. 4–6) are connected to the Commander Core XT (Ports: 4–6).
  • Most mainboards have 2x USB2.0 header ports.
  • The Commander Core XT is connected to one of the two USB2.0 ports, as well as the LCD kit.
  • The Commander Core (AIO - package contents) is connected to the passthrough port of the Commander Core XT.
  • If your mainboard has only one USB2.0 header port, our internal USB Hub is a great solution.
  • Finally, the LCD kit is connected to the CPU_FAN port of the mainboard, and all controllers/repeaters are connected to the power supply via the SATA power cable.

If you've chosen to stick to our traditional PC components, these two diagrams will have given you a clearer idea of how to wire up your system. Good luck!
