The CORSAIR K65 PLUS WIRELESS is our very first 75% gaming keyboard. There’s a lot to like here: easy customizability, triple-mode connectivity, pre-lubed MLX Red switches, the list goes on. Those who want a full rundown should check out our main K65 PLUS article because today, we’re here to answer one simple question: Can you rebind the volume knob on the CORSAIR K65 PLUS?
No, you can’t. Unlike the humble key, you can’t save a string of commands or make it do literally anything. Instead, we’ve pre-programmed it with a bunch of functions.
You can cycle between most of these functions by holding FN and tapping the corresponding arrow key. The keycaps on the arrow keys have a small symbol to help you remember, too. Additionally, you can pick a color to associate with any of these functions in iCUE. Then, the indicator light at the top left of the K65 PLUS will illuminate with that color so you know what the dial is in charge of.
At time of writing, the control knob has five options. Here’s the list, and we’ll go into each function to provide a bit more detail below.
(FN + Up arrow key)
The default option is of course volume. Clicking the knob in mutes and unmutes system audio, allowing you to mute salty teammates or bosses intravenously. Not that we’d recommend that last one.
(FN + left arrow key)
Brightness control is the first option after the default. To be clear, this does not mean screen brightness. Instead, this allows you to control the brightness of the RGB lighting in the K65 PLUS. Clicking the button will cut the lighting entirely for a monochromatic stealth look. As much as we love RGB lighting, it can be a bit of a distraction, so it’s nice to be able to stop it without going into software. Additionally, you can stop it even when the control knob is doing other things, as there’s a physical button on the left side of the keyboard underneath the aforementioned indicator light.
(FN + down arrow key)
Vertical scroll is the next function. This makes scrolling long pages like contracts or Reddit super easy. In this mode, clicking the wheel in will send you straight to the bottom of the page, and often the actual point of the document you’re on.
Now we have Horizontal scroll. Unfortunately, we ran out of arrow keys so this one has to be selected from within the iCUE Software itself. It’s particularly useful if you lack a mouse with sidescroll. This allows you to scroll sideways within wide documents like spreadsheets.
(FN + right arrow key)
Zoom is the final function. This allows you to zoom in and out, clicking the wheel will reset it to 100% scale. This can be real handy for those who work with images, allowing you to easily zoom in to see details, and back out to get the bigger picture.
So, now you have a complete understanding of the K65 PLUS knob. If it sounds like your next keyboard, check out the K65 PLUS WIRELESS at our main website. If you're looking for something different, we have plenty of other keyboards available, too.
