Mousepads have traditionally been something of an afterthought. Typically, little more than a sad rectangle that lives under your mouse and has largely been forgotten about.
Well, that’s no longer the case, as the PC gaming landscape has evolved, so too has the humble mousepad. Now, it’s not uncommon to see mousepads that span the entire width of the desk they’re on.
Well, there’s a few reasons for this, so today, we’re going to explain why the mousepad has grown so large, and why it might be worthwhile to get a bigger one. Luckily, we provide our MM series of mousepads in loads of different sizes, so you’ve be able to find one to fit your setup perfectly.
There are basically two reasons to get a larger mousepad: functionality and aesthetics.
Anyone who’s ever used a mouse will be familiar with the infuriating feeling when the mouse slides off the pad and onto the desk. A larger mousepad will obviously make this far less likely, especially if it spans the whole desk.
Additionally, those who play on low DPI need to move the mouse further for any given on-screen cursor movement, so, a large mousepad is vital. If you’re on a smaller mouse pad you must lift off and reset the mouse to continue the movement. This is annoying for casual gamers and unacceptable for competitive players.
If you're finding it hard to visualize, check the infographic below. The mouse is a CORSAIR NIGHTSABRE WIRELESS and it's to scale, which should help you gauge the relative sizing of mousepads.
When it comes to looks, it’s hard to write definitively due to the inherently subjective nature of aesthetics. However, tidiness never goes out of style, and our range of larger mousepads certainly help with that.
There’s just something nice about having a large amount of your desk be a mousepad. It looks cool, maximizes the usable area for you mouse, and provides an additional barrier in case of spills.
