Path of Exile 2 is the newest addition to a genre of games much beloved by gamers, especially PC gamers. If you’ve ever enjoyed games like Diablo, The Binding of Isaac, or indeed the first Path of Exile, you’ll know what to expect here and you’ll be excited for it.
Like the original, this game is free-to-play, with microtransactions that are less aggressive compared to many recent releases. The familiar procedurally generated gameplay and fantasy setting that made the first game a hit ensure the sequel will likely enjoy success as well. But before you dive in, let’s take a look at the minimum and recommended system requirements for Path of Exile 2.
If your PC passes a cross-reference against either of the lists above, then yes, you're good to go. However, according to the Steam Store page, your GPU must have at least 3GB of VRAM. The developer, Grinding Gear Games, also recommends an SSD. So, take a look at CORSAIR’s range of SSDs if you’re still holding on to that poor, tired HDD. Old Yeller is slowing you down, guys. Time to take him out back.
Top-down dungeon crawler games generally aren't too taxing on your system as AAA, high-fidelity titles like Star Wars Outlaws or Black Myth: Wukong. This means that the game is accessible to those with less-than bleeding-edge PCs.
However, if your CPU is aging, upgrading to a new AIO is recommended so it can work harder without getting too hot or noisy. Additionally, RAM, especially DDR4, is cheaper than ever, so if you’re still packing just 8GB, this is a great time to make the change to 16GB, or even better, 32GB.
Path of Exile 2 occupies one of the more classical genres of PC gaming: the dungeon crawler. You can expect to party up with a squad of the usual fantasy races (Either AI-controlled, or your friends) and roam through the caverns in search of loot.
There is also a generous helping of RPG elements in Path of Exile 2, with open skill trees that allow you to hyper-specialise or broaden your build at will to help you fight your way through the dungeons.
These dungeons, by the way, are procedurally generated, meaning replay value is increased and provides a more meaningful experience if you wish to go back through to try out a different playstyle. With a skill tree of around 1,500 different abilities, it will be a considerable undertaking for those who like to 100% games.
