Intel is releasing it's Core Ultra Series 2 or Core Ultra 200 Series aka Arrow Lake-S processors with its new naming scheme. Both Core Ultra 9 and Core Ultra 7 variants are the top of the line models and very strong choices. If you're working a lot with multithreaded tasks the Core Ultra 9 285K with its 24 Threads consisting of 8 Performance and 16 Efficiency cores will provide you with the best performance in comparison with all the other models available.
The Core Ultra 7 265K is no slouch though and also comes with 20 Threads, 8 Performance, and 12 Efficiency cores. Both processors are a great pick for productivity tasks such as video editing, image processing, and machine learning.
Since both chips have the same TDP, they will consume the same amount of energy and should dissipate a similar amount of heat. Both chips are considered high-end models, so coolers like the A115 Air Cooler or 360mm/420mm AIOs are well-recommended, especially given that neither processor comes with a cooler at all.
At the time of writing, the Core Ultra 7 265K is a more cost-effective option at $394 as it offers just a slightly lower performance for gaming and everyday applications. By comparison, the Core Ultra 9 285K retails at $589, making it 49% more expensive.
Both processors are excellent options, depending on specific requirements and budget. Just make sure that you pair either processor with a good cooling solution from CORSAIR, be it an AIO, an Air Cooler, or even a custom loop. It's worth mentioning that any existing cooler that's compatible with LGA 1700 CPUs will work natively.
