How to set up Device Memory Mode Lighting and Key Assignments (iCUE v5.14 & Newer)

iCUE version 5.14 is a major update that aims to rework to the way that you save and configure your profiles. It should now be easier to identify when you are editing and operating with the device’s hardware settings which have been renamed to Device Memory Mode. Let’s quickly go over how to enable device memory mode and change lighting and key assignments.

Enabling Device Memory Mode

Device memory mode can be enabled by simply clicking the toggle switch in your device menu. You can confirm it is enabled by a new row of memory card icons as well as icons beside each of the menu categories. You can switch between device memory profiles by clicking on the various icons just below the device memory mode switch. On the home page, you will also see the memory card icon to quickly identify which devices are running in device memory mode.

Once you are in device memory mode, all software settings are ignored, and the device will be running with the same settings that will be used without iCUE. That can be situations where iCUE is closed, the connection is being blocked by another software, or there is an issue with the device.

Creating Lighting & Key Assignments

By clicking on “Lighting Effects” you can see the lighting options for that device. Lighting effect options will be more limited compared to using software profiles. This will also vary greatly depending on the device you have and its capabilities.

Create your lighting effect by mixing lighting layers, lighting types, and lighting zones to customize your device. Lighting layers enable you to use multiple lighting types for a more complicated effect. Lighting type will determine the lighting pattern. Colors and details can be adjusted on the far right menu. Lighting zones can be selected on the image of the device itself or by clicking the preconfigured lighting zones.

Key Assignments follow a similar process. Click on “Key Assignments” to show the different remapping and macro options for your device. Again, this will be more limited than using software profiles and will also vary greatly depending on the device you are using. After selecting your key assignment select a key to bind it to and configure the action.

Once your lighting and key assignments are adjusted save your profile to your device memory by clicking on the current profile which should have a new save icon, indicating that there are unsaved changes. If you attempt to exit the menu without saving you will also be prompted to save your changes.

Using the device memory mode is the best way to ensure that your devices work in any condition. This is the best way to ensure functionality regardless of any software quirks that may be happening with your special configuration or any conflicting software.
