GTA V Enhanced System Requirements and Recommended Specs

No, you're not hallucinating, GTA V is being re-released for the third time since it’s initial launch back in 2013 (2015 on PC). This time, however, you don’t have to pay for it, as Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced is simply a major update to the original game, bringing the 12-year-old title into the modern era with improved visuals and better performance courtesy of DLSS, FSR, ray tracing, and a few other contemporary niceties.

So, let’s take a look at the GTA V Enhanced System Requirements to see if your PC is capable of another few hundred hours in Los Santos.

GTA V Enhanced system requirements and recommended specs

GTA V Enhanced Recommended System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 11
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-9600K / AMD Ryzen 5 3600
  • RAM: 16 GB
  • GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3060 (8 GB VRAM) / AMD RX 6600XT (8 GB VRAM)
  • Storage: 105 GB available space (DirectStorage-compatible)

GTA V Enhanced Minimum System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 10 (Latest Service Pack)
  • CPU: Intel Core i7-4770 / AMD FX 9590
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • GPU: NVIDIA GTX 1630 (4 GB VRAM) / AMD RX 6400 (4 GB VRAM)
  • Storage: 105 GB available space

It’s worth noting here that Rockstar has included a massive disclaimer on the Steam Store page for GTA V Enhanced that the system requirements could change depending on future content updates. However, given the additional visual features included in the GTA V Enhanced update have far more influence on your hardware choices than future content will, we don’t expect the system requirements to change much at all.

Can I Run GTA V Enhanced?

This is an interesting one because the system requirements haven’t increased all that much from the original release (now known as GTA V Legacy and unlisted from the Steam Store). However, the GTA Enhanced update introduces modern graphics technologies that would either struggle or outright fail to run on older hardware, specifically GPUs.

Speaking of which, GTA V Enhanced has launched at a most serendipitous time, right as AMD and NVIDIA are competing for your cash with the Radeon RX 9000 Series and GeForce RTX 50 Series respectively. GTA V Enhanced includes new visual settings for both FSR and DLSS, making either brand a solid choice, especially if you're looking to use their AI tech to get higher FPS.

Even without the brand-specific features, the new implementation of features such as ambient occlusion, global illumination, and ray tracing will be greatly improved with a newer graphics card, especially if you’re still using the same GPU you had when GTA V first released all those years ago.

It's also worth mentioning that GTA V Enhanced now supports Microsoft DirectStorage, so it’s worth grabbing a PCIe 4.0 or newer SSD to speed up loading times. Given that GTA V takes place in the open world of Los Santos and Blaine County, DirectStorage could shine here by minimizing texture pop in or stuttering as you fly your hijacked fighter jet across the map at speeds that would make an HDD spin itself to death. The slightly sluggish experience of switching between characters might also be a lot faster this time around, which would make for a totally seamless experience.

Rockstar have also upped the RAM recommendations compared to GTA V Legacy, so 16GB or 32GB of DDR5 RAM will put your PC on the right track to keep up with the new version of GTA V.

What Kind of Game is GTA V Enhanced?

Honestly, we might as well leave this section blank as basically everyone has played GTA V at some point in the last 12 years. However, it might have been a while, so we can share a quick refresher.

GTA V Enhanced has no gameplay differences from the older version of GTA V, so you can expect the same story. Michael doing his “just when I thought I was out” spiel every couple hours, Franklin working his way up from humble bailiff to successful criminal, and Trevor going on rampages and waking up in the middle of the desert surrounded by empty malt liquor bottles.

Relatable characters like these help immerse you in the story, making it easy to feel for them, but let's be honest, we don’t play GTA games for the story. We play them to see how long we can survive blowing things up in a tank or whether we can launch a motorcycle off a building and survive. GTA V provides more freedom for this sort of chaos than its predecessors, so there are limitless ways to amuse yourself, and your friends, in GTA Online, GTA V’s included multiplayer mode.

GTA Online has remained popular since 2013 and has received multiple updates that have changed the landscape considerably. What used to be basically an empty city in which you could race or shoot people, has now ballooned in scope to include demolition derbies, floating racetracks, and heist missions that require high levels of coordination. This is probably where you’ll end up spending most of your time in GTA V Enhanced, and now it will look better than ever.
