CORSAIR 9000D: Everything you need to know

The upcoming 9000D is a beast. That much is obvious. One look at the sheer size of the thing and you'll know that this case can handle basically anything you throw at it. Stacks of fans? No problem, the InifiniRail makes it easy. Custom water cooling? Even multiple 480mm radiators are doable.

Tonnes of data storage? Nearly a dozen mounting spots for both SSDs and HDDs enough for you? Need a PC in your PC? Yeah, we have that covered too. With such a massive case, it’s hard to simply say what you can do with it. Let’s go over the various options so you can start formulating your next no-compromises build. Here is everything you need to know about the 9000D.

Motherboard Compatibility

With the biggest case you have to have the biggest motherboard compatibility sheet, so of course the 9000D supports all the standard motherboard configurations: mATX, ATX & EATX. To really bring this case into the modern age, we’ve added support for reverse motherboard connectors, allowing for a spacious look in a massive case.

But if that was all the 9000D had to offer, this would just be another big case. If you’re building a bigger system then you’re going to need a bigger motherboard. Support for SSI EEB and CEB boards with support for more CPUs and RAM will allow your 9000D to be the server beast you need for your start up or small business.

On top of all that, you can still put a whole extra PC inside. On top of the large basement there is a mounting spot for an mITX motherboard. This can house a second PC which will need it’s own power supply, and can be started with a button on the rear of the case.

Cooling Support

With support for huge components comes a need for huge cooling. Thankfully the 9000D not only supports a massive number of fans and radiators, but also makes installation of them easy with the InfiniRail system. The InfiniRail system is a set of adjustable mounting points connected to a slide out rail, making the case adaptable to fit the needs of any build.

The case features two of these InfiniRail systems; one on the top and one on the front. Each InfiniRail can hold up to 8x 120mm fans. Adding more 120mm fans on the side and rear brings the total up to 21.

Close up of the InfiniRail system

If you’re looking to use 140mm or 200mm fans, the InfiniRails will need to be unscrewed and moved at the ends. Markings along the sliding rail will tell you where you need to screw it in, depending on the type of fans you are looking to install. The larger size does mean that you will be able to fit less of them but the beauty of the 9000D is the freedom to choose. The mounting points can freely be slid along the InfiniRail for super unique placement options.

Here is a full breakdown of the support for different types of fans and their mounting locations:

Fan Size
120mm 140mm 200mm
Location Top 8 3 2
Front 8 3 2
Side 3 0 0
Rear 2 1 0

That’s just fans and we fully expect someone who is buying a crazy case like the 9000D to take it a little further. Radiators are supported anywhere where fans are mounted but it is important to be mindful of clearance issues. In an extreme example, adding push pull radiators fitted all the way to the top and front would cause them to clash, not even considering the inlet and outlet ports.

Here is a breakdown of the available radiator support in the 9000D. Please note that this does not consider clearance issues:

Radiator Size
240mm 280mm 360mm 420mm 480mm
Location Top 2 1 2 1 2
Front 2 1 2 1 2
Side 1 0 1 0 0
Rear 1 0 0 0 0

Storage Mounting

The 9000D by itself supports up to a total of 11 drives. A large removable hard drive cage in the bottom center holds up to five hard drives, while the double doors that hide all the cabling in the back also hold up to six SSDs. Not even counting the M.2 slots on the motherboard, this is already enough to potentially hold several hundreds of terabytes of data, perfect for any data hungry AI development task or super speedy and reliable RAID array.

Front I/O and Built In RGB

The front I/O features a plethora of modern ports: 2x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C and 4x USB 3.2 Gen-1 Type-A alongside a headphone and microphone jack. But it isn’t the quantity that makes them special. This is an all-out CORSAIR case, so you know it has to have RGB. Just like its younger brother the 1000D, the 9000D features RGB around all its ports as well as in the logo on the front.

This is all controllable via the modern iCUE LINK system, with the case lights taking up just one of the 24 supported devices. Now in a case as big as this, it’s easy to go over that amount, especially if you’re doing a push/pull configuration with radiators. Thankfully with 30mm of clearance behind the motherboard, cable routing to additional System Hubs or Signal Splitters is easier than ever.
