How to: Fix squeaking noises in your gaming chair

If your gaming chair is making squeaking noises, it could have loose parts or parts that need lubrication.

If you are unsure what lubricating agent is best for your chair, we recommend using a WD-40 spray or asking your local department store on what works best.

Checking for loose nuts, bolts, and screws

Before lubricating your gaming chair, first check if the squeaking noise is caused by loose nuts, bolts, or screws. Use a screwdriver to tighten any nut, bolt, or screw that may be loose.

If the chair still makes squeaking noises afterwards, the next step is to try greasing the mechanisms of your chair.

Greasing your chair parts

To loosen up the joints of your chair, apply a lubricating oil on the mechanisms of your chair. You may want to remove the bolts and screws from the chair to lubricate them more thoroughly before putting them back into the chair.

The squeaking sound could also be caused by the back of your chair or its wheels. Check those if your chair is still squeaking after lubricating the bolts and screws:

  • If the back of your chair squeaks when you lean back on it, remove the seat tension turn-knob of your chair and apply lubrication to the seat tension spring inside.
  • If the chair wheels squeak, turn the chair back over and spray the lubricating agent on each wheel. Flip the chair back to its usual position and move it around to let the lubricating agent spread around the entire wheel.

Reducing squeaking in the future

In order to reduce the amount of squeaking in the future, make sure that you treat your chair gently. For example, sit down gently on the chair and refrain from putting unnecessary stress on your chair, such as collapsing into your chair or jumping up and down.
