How to stop HS80 MAX randomly disconnecting

Owners of our CORSAIR HS80 MAX wireless gaming headset might have experienced the headset intermittently disconnecting from its wireless dongle.

This can be frustrating for all the obvious reasons, so if this is an issue that has affected you, we apologise. That being said, we’ve now identified what’s causing it, and released a fix to solve it.

Firstly, there’s no need to worry, the headset is not broken and the hardware isn’t faulty, it’s actually a firmware issue with the USB dongle, not the HS80 MAX itself.

All you need to do is update the firmware on the dongle. Those who already know how to do that can stop reading, hit the update button, and enjoy a more reliable gaming experience, but for those who don’t know, here’s how to install the firmware update.

How to update firmware for HS80 MAX and stop it from randomly disconnecting

In order to apply firmware updates to any CORSAIR product, including the HS80 MAX for this fix, you’ll need to install iCUE if you haven't already. You can find it on our downloads page. After that’s done, follow the steps below to update the firmware on the HS80 MAX dongle and put an end to the sporadic disconnection issues.

icue update notification

  1. Open iCUE. You might get a notification to for this firmware update. If that’s the case then you just need to click it and the process will start automatically
  2. If that’s not the case, click on the “HS80 MAX WIRELESS RECIEVER” module. It will be nested amongst all the other CORSAIR products front and centre in iCUE.
  3. Now click the little gear icon to open the settings window.
  4. At the top of this window, you’ll see the current firmware version next to a button labelled “Check for Updates”. Click this and the process will start. Now you just need to wait. If you’re wearing the headset during this bit the audio will temporarily cut out.
