What is the best monitor for PS5?

Monitors nowadays have multiple inputs to connect not just a PC but other devices as well. Consoles come quickly into mind and to get the best possible experience there are a few things to consider. Choosing the right monitor to get the most out of your PlayStation 5 console seems easy, all you need is HDMI input to the monitor, but there is more to that when you want to achieve a high refresh rate of up to 120Hz and HDR on top.

DOES THE ASPECT RATIO MATTER?

PlayStation 5 plays best on a monitor that has a 16:9 aspect ratio. At present, the PS5 does not support any other aspect ratios.

CAN YOU GAME AT A HIGHER REFRESH RATE THAN 120HZ WHEN USING A GAMING MONITOR?

No, unfortunately not. The PlayStation 5 is capable of up to 2160P (4K) resolutions at 120Hz.

WHICH VERSION OF HDMI SHOULD YOUR MONITOR SUPPORT?

When choosing your monitor, you should pay attention to the HDMI port it uses. There are monitors with HDMI 2.0 and monitors with HDMI 2.1 out there. Simply put, for modern day consoles HDMI 2.1 will give you the best experience as this will support both higher refresh rates and HDR output alike.

You can use HDMI 2.0 as well, but you won’t be able to enjoy the full potential of your console.

WHICH CABLE SHOULD I USE FOR PLAYSTATION 5?

Make sure you either use the supplied cable of your PS5 or you use the HDMI cable that came with the XENEON 27QHD240 OLED monitor. Both support HDMI 2.1 connections.

WHICH IS CORSAIR’S BEST MONITOR FOR PLAYSTATION 5?

The best monitor for the PlayStation 5 would be the CORSAIR XENEON 27QHD240 OLED. This monitor has everything to hook up several devices as it offers 2x HDMI 2.1, 1x DisplayPort 1.4 and even 1x USB-C DP-Alt. You could hook up 4 different devices at once and conveniently switch between them.

WHAT SETTINGS ARE IMPORTANT ON THE PLAYSTATION 5?

You can set your PlayStation 5 to 2160P (4K) or better to the native resolution of the monitor, which is 1440p (QHD). 4K sounds great, but as the monitor’s native resolution is 1440p, you will not have any benefit of running it at 4K and 120Hz. We suggest you set it up at 1440p and leave all the settings for 120Hz output on Automatic.

HDR (High Dynamic Range) is supported as well, and you will be amazed by the combination of HDR and OLED. The colors pop due to the XENEON 27QHD240 having an OLED panel and HDR makes sure that details in highlights and shadows look spectacular. Leave the setting on Always On and you are set for HDR goodness.

Once you have hooked everything up, make sure that you run the HDR calibration that you find in the Settings under Screen and Video called “Adjust HDR”. This will ensure that your monitor is able to show its best side.

WHAT IF YOU WANT A SCREEN LARGER THAN 27-INCH?

Don’t worry, we got you covered. You can also choose the CORSAIR XENEON 32UHD144-A with a 32-inch panel size. Although this one is not an OLED monitor, it still has an excellent Fast IPS panel with Quantum Dot technology. Here you can set the native resolution to 2160P (4K) as this is a UHD 4K monitor. Everything else said above stays the same.

Do you want to go even bigger? There is the shiny CORSAIR XENEON FLEX 45WQHD240 monitor with a 45-inch panel that even has the option to go curved. Here also, everything stays the same as outlined above by setting the PlayStation 5 up with 1440p output. Just hook all up and make your settings accordingly. As the XENEON FLEX has a different aspect ratio of 21:9 instead of 16:9 you will see black bars on the sides. Effectively you will use it just like a 16:9 panel.

WHAT ABOUT SOUND AND MAYBE A KEYBOARD AND A MOUSE?

As our suggested monitors do not have built in speakers, you will need to hook up a headset to the PlayStation 5. Check out our line-up of compatible PS5 gaming headsets on our webstore.

We also have some interesting articles right here on CORSAIR Explorer about compatible mice, keyboards, and headsets.
