Those of you with a penchant for MMOs and/or MOBAs will know how vital it is to have a suitable mouse for these games. While you can get by with an FPS gaming mouse, you’ll have a far better time using a gaming mouse designed specifically for the genre of game in question. Additionally, cutting the cable is always appreciated for a cleaner setup and to eliminate the frustration of cable-drag.
Introducing the CORSAIR SCIMITAR ELITE WIRELESS: Our new high-performance gaming mouse. Designed from the ground up to be the perfect companion for dungeon-crawling, raid-leading, and mob-grinding.
Those of you who are already gaming mice connoisseurs will know that the specs are where it’s at, so, here you go:
MMO gaming mice are the most specifically designed of all gaming mice, with their hallmark feature being a cluster of additional buttons on the thumb side. Those unfamiliar with MMOs might think that having 9 or 12 additional buttons on the mouse is unnecessary. This is not the case, however, as MMOs, MOBAs, and MMORPGs often have a lot of different inputs that you need quick access to constantly.
Additionally, at higher levels of play, taking a moment to look at the keyboard is unwise, so having them already in the vicinity of your thumb is a game-changer. Because the position of these buttons is so vital for quick access, the CORSAIR SCIMITAR ELITE WIRELESS is equipped with a key slider for the side buttons.
This is our solution to ensure perfect ergonomics for this mouse. It allows you to slide the side-button cluster back and forth until you find the perfect location, then lock it in place wherever you want. So, regardless of your hand size and grip preference, the side buttons will be in the correct place. The side buttons have 8mm of travel, by the way, creating a lot of adjustment without resulting in an inordinately long mouse. On the slider you’ll find a total of 12 buttons, numbered, and arranged in a 3x4 grid.
For better tactility and to help your thumb understand where it is, we’ve put a grippy plastic on buttons 4–6 and 10–12. As 1–3 and 7–9 are smooth, you’ll know what column your thumb is on by the texture of its neighbor. With a bit of practice, you’ll be navigating all 12 additional buttons in no time. We’ve also numbered and backlit them with all 16.4m colors of the RGB spectrum, so if you’re not quite a pro yet, a quick glance down and to the right will get your thumb reoriented.
Chances are the out of the box position of the key slider won’t quite be perfect, so, to adjust it, here’s what you need to do.
Use the included hex key (Allen key for the tea-sippers out there) to loosen the screw on the underside of the mouse (any 2.5mm hex key will fit). You’ll find it inset into the underside just next to the sensor.
With the screw loosened and the key slider mobile, flip the mouse over and grip it as you normally would. (The screw you just loosened is captive, by the way, so you needn’t worry about it falling out.) Gripping the mouse as you normally would, use your thumb to slide the cluster of buttons back and forth.
As you do this, move your thumb around and test that you can reach all 12 buttons with ease. Once you’ve found the perfect position, hold the mouse tightly, so the keypad won’t move, flip it over, and re-tighten the hex key with your other hand. All done. Over time the slider might loosen, so if you detect it slipping, simply repeat this process. Now, the key slider might be the star of the show, but the CORSAIR SCIMITAR ELITE WIRELESS has a few more things up its sleeve, too.
Longtime CORSAIR users will know that this is the first time the SCIMITAR line of mice has gone wireless, finally freeing MMO players from cable drag and messy desks. To make this freedom accessible for all, the CORSAIR SCIMITAR ELITE WIRELESS has been equipped with both Bluetooth and 2.4 GHz SLIPSTREAM WIRELESS.
Bluetooth is fast becoming a vital feature of wireless gaming mice and people who use gaming laptops will know this. With laptops like our CORSAIR VOYAGER a1600, for example, only having a single full-size USB port, alternative connection options are very important. (It's worth noting that the CORSAIR VOYAGER a1600 also has integrated SLIPSTREAM WIRELESS as well though, giving you even more options.)
If saving USB ports is your jam, but Bluetooth isn’t, you’ll be happy to know that the CORSAIR SCIMITAR ELITE is multipoint enabled, meaning that you can connect the mouse, a headset, and a keyboard to a single SLIPSTREAM dongle. Short on USB ports or not, SLIPSTREAM multipoint creates a super tidy setup. Those with understandable concerns about battery life will be pleased to learn that the built-in rechargeable lithium-polymer battery lasts for up to 120hrs on 2.4GHz with RGB lighting turned off and up to 150hrs dark on Bluetooth.
Aside from the novel side button cluster key slider and the lack of cable, the SCIMITAR ELITE WIRELESS has been outfitted with our most up to date internal tech, too. People who know exactly what goes on inside will have noticed this from the specs, those who didn’t, should read on.
First up comes the sensor. It’s our very own CORSAIR MARKSMAN. Clocking in at 26,000DPI, with 650IPS and 50G acceleration. Of course, you need not flick the mouse at light speed while raiding, trading, or upgrading, but the additional headroom creates more accuracy regardless of your decided DPI. 100% PTFE feet help with that, too, creating the lowest friction surface outside of space agencies and ensuring that your next move won’t be impeded by rough spots.
You'll also spot the 2,000Hz polling rate, meaning that the speed of the sensor and the additional inputs courtesy of the 16 programmable buttons won’t be missed by the computer.
So, the classic SCIMITAR shape and utility, but updated with our latest tech and finally without wires. Tempted? Take a look at the CORSAIR SCIMITAR ELITE WIRELESS on our retail site and enjoy the wireless freedom today.
