Here at CORSAIR we’ve made almost everything computer related for years. Starting with RAM, then moving onto cases, PSUs, mice, keyboards, the list truly goes on. However, our presence when it comes to furniture has been largely restricted to chairs.
The eagle-eyed among you might notice that the chair is only half the equation when it comes to a gaming or home office setup. So, now we’re completing that equation with our first ever desk, the CORSAIR Platform:6, a modular desk system that can be tailored to your needs, be that gaming, working, streaming, or other creative pursuits.
Due to the modularity of the Platform:6, it comes in three different base options, then the additional accessories can be purchased separately, or later if you find yourself in need of an upgrade. So, let’s take a look at the three versions of Platform:6.
It’s worth mentioning at the outset that the Platform:6 desk is designed to be modular, so all the accessories are compatible regardless of which version you initially buy, which creates an open and versatile ecosystem. To help you understand the differences between the Base model, Elevate, and Creator edition, here’s a product matrix that makes it clear.
Platform:6 | Platform:6 Elevate | Platform:6 Creator Edition | |
Adjustable Height | - | ✓ | ✓ |
Desk Surface Material | Black Laminate | Black Laminate or Wood | Wood |
Dual Monitor Arms | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ |
Power Strips | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ |
Cable Management Tray | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ |
Stroage Cubby and USB Power | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ |
Rail System | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ |
Elgato Multiframe | Sold Seperately | Sold Seperately | ✓ |
The main takeaway here is that the vital features, those that really do help you keep a tidy and productive workspace going, are ubiquitous across all three models. Every desk gets dual monitor arms, power strips (one on top and one in the cable management tray,) a multifunctional rail mount system, and a storage cubby in the surface of your desk equipped with USB power.
Additionally, the base model Platform:6 does not come with a wooden desktop or sit-stand functionality. These features are exclusive to the Platform:6 Elevate and the Platform:6 Creator Edition. Additionally, the Creator Edition comes with the Elgato multi frame as standard, whereas as it’s an optional extra for the other two versions.
Regardless of which version you buy, there are a few accessories worth considering. First up is the Elgato multiframe. This is an extension of the base rail system combined with a versatile pegboard backing, plus a small shelf on either side. These are the perfect location for a set of speakers or some desk decoration.
The pegboard is super versatile, with wide functionality, not only with our stuff like the RapidRoute system, but as the holes have standard 25mm spacing, almost any third-party hooks, shelves, or baskets will fit. This allows you the freedom to take the Elgato multiframe and configure it however you want to make it perfect for your specific uses.
Additionally, the multiframe is made from the same rail system as the horizonal rail included on all versions of the desk. This means that it opens up a whole host of new options for mounting accessories wherever suits you best.
For example, if you’re a streamer or content creator, you could mount your key lights on the vertical struts, creating some distinct edge lighting. Alternatively, hobbyists who need clear and unobstructed lighting for the painting of miniatures could mount lights to the horizontal rail along the top and angle them down. This would create even and strong lighting on the surface of the desk, allowing you to see every detail of your work. It’s hard to describe all the potential uses of the Multiframe due to its open nature, but we’re confident that you guys will find uses we didn’t even consider, which we’d love to see over at our r/Corsair subreddit.
The desk extensions and side peg boards by comparison, are not included with any version of the Platform:6, so they must be purchased separately. To be clear, if you purchase the desk extension and side pegboard kit, you will receive 2x desk extensions and 2x side pegboards. So, if you just want a really wide desk or have heavy utility for the side peg boards, you do not need to order this kit twice.
The gamers out there will already be eyeing up this accessory as the desk extensions have been sized specifically to fit a PC. This allows you to absolve yourself of the airflow sin of placing your PC on the ground because your previous inferior desk didn’t have room.
Those worried about space can breathe easy, too, as the desk extensions are 30cm x 76cm (11.8” x 30”.) They have the same extended depth as the Platform:6 desk, which means two things: they attach neatly and look great, and perhaps more importantly, as we mentioned earlier, they easily accommodate a full-tower PC case.
Those with custom water cooling or otherwise hefty systems will be pleased to learn that, despite the slim form factor reinforcement, the desk extensions can hold up to 25kg (55.1lbs.) Rest assured, your PC will be safe sitting on the extension, which is good as you really don't want to leave your PC sitting on the floor.
The side peg boards are most useful for neatly storing the stuff that often just hangs out on the desk, taking up room. For example, a set of headphones can be hung here out of the way, but within arm’s reach. Additionally, cables you often need or even a backpack you would normally just chuck under your desk can be stowed on the pegboard, too. These pegboards have the same standard 25mm spacing as the multiframe, so anything that fits there can also fit here, creating much utility where most desks are just empty space.
With all these features, wide compatibility with 3rd party accessories via the use of pre-existing standards, and the quality of the product, it's no surprise that the price exceeds a typical flatpack furniture alternative. We stand behind the price, though, as the engineering and design considerations that went into the development of the Platform:6 have resulted in a piece of furniture that will last for years. Additionally, if you do have the need for spare parts, our tech support team can help you out. Below you'll find the regional pricing of the CORSAIR Platform:6.
