Now that the RTX 40-series has been given the “Super” treatment, you might be wondering if you’ll need a new PSU in order to upgrade to the 4070 Super, 4070Ti Super, or the 4080 Super.
Given the “Super” suffix, you’d be wise to assume that these are jacked-up supercharged versions of the regular cards, and therefore require a big PSU upgrade. This, however, isn’t really the case.
These Super GPUs are not new or upgraded variants of their original counterparts, more like refined versions that are destined to replace the regular ones. Though, there are some interesting AI features and minor performance enhancements. Happily, this means that they have basically the same requirements as the older ones.
So, if you’ve already got a power supply that works for the regular 40-Series card of your choice, you should be ok to simply stick with that.
However, if you’ve yet to upgrade the to 40-Series of GPUs, then the Super versions are your best bet. Additionally, if this is the case, then you very much might need a new PSU. So, if this sounds like you, then you’re in luck as we’ve prepared a few guides to help you pick a new PSU upgrade for the RTX 40-Series Super GPUs.
