Should I Run a 2-Up or 4-Up Memory Kit? (AMD)

Modern desktop platforms allow for a variety of memory configurations with the standard being up to 4 modules of memory. However there are some considerations to make when choosing a memory kit for your desired platform.

With overclockable memory, you'll often find that memory kits that consist of fewer modules tend to be rated for higher speeds. This is due to the reduced load placed on the memory controller of the intended platform the memory kit has been validated for. While kits consisting of more modules, will generally be the best value for higher capacities.

In general, it is best practice to pick the best kit for your needs, whether it be performance or overall capacity. Then, if an upgrade is required at a later date, replace the kit with a new, validated kit that better suits your needs at the time of the upgrade rather than mixing and matching different kits of memory (doing so may result in system instability).
