CORSAIR XH405i Custom Cooling Kit: Everything you need to know

The XH405i is the first custom cooling kit to feature CORSAIR’s iCUE LINK system, helping you easily connect all the data and power your water cool system needs. It comes with a variety of components designed to help you water cool your CPU in your own creative vision. Let’s go over all the details of the XH405i and see how it can help bring your dream PC to life.

Overview

The XH405i is a collection of pre-existing custom cooling components from CORSAIR. It takes the hassle out of choosing parts by ensuring compatibility across many different items while reducing cost vs buying the individual components individually.

To ensure compatibility with your case, please ensure that it supports a 360mm radiator, an Intel LGA 1700 or AMD AM5/AM4 bracket, and has adequate space for the XD5 RGB ELITE pump reservoir combo.

The XH405i only comes with the equipment necessary to cool your CPU but can easily be expanded to cool your GPU as well. Since GPU designs vary much more than CPU designs it is important to get a water block for that specific card. Be sure to select the corresponding GPU when purchasing a water block like the iCUE LINK compatible XG7 RGB 40-series.

The kit comes in both black and white which changes almost everything that you’ll find in the final build while keeping the same functionality.

The Kit

Let’s go over the XH405i’s different parts and how they are going to be used in a custom cooling setup.

Item Use
iCUE LINK XC7 RGB ELITE CPU Block Makes contact with the CPU to transfer the heat into the rest of the custom cooling loop.
iCUE LINK XD5 RGB ELITE Pump reservoir combo Holds and circulates the coolant in the loop, allowing it to move heat along with it.
XR5 360mm Radiator Takes the heat from the coolant and spreads it a cross a large surface area, making it easier to cool.
3x iCUE LINK QX120 RGB fans Pushes air through the radiator, taking away the heat to be exhausted out of the system.
iCUE LINK System Hub Used to provide data and power to the fans, CPU block, and pump/reservoir
iCUE LINK 4-Way Splitter Allows for more connections to the system hub.
8x XF Hardline14mm OD Fitting (2x Four pack) Ensures a tight seal between the hardline tubing and the end connections to stop any leaks.
2x 90° Rotary Adapter (1x Twin pack) Place before a fitting to easily create perfect bends for an ultra clean look.
3m XT Hardline14mm Tubing (6x 0.5m length) Use to carry coolant and connect the different parts of the custom cooling system.
XT Hardline Bending Toolkit A variety of tools to help get the perfect length and bend on the hardline tubes.
XL8 Clear coolant 1l bottle The coolant that is in the tubes, constantly moving to transfer heat away from the CPU.
Filling Bottle A simple tool used to easily transfer the coolant into the system even in out-of-the-way locations.

Some other tools you’ll need for this upgrade include a screwdriver to simply install all the equipment and a heat gun to soften the hard tubing and make it bendable.

The Build

After planning and purchasing comes the build. For many of you this may be your first custom cooling system so it’s important to do your research. There are a lot of details to go over that requires it’s own article to talk about but, as a general outline, here are the main steps of installing your custom cooling system.

  1. Mount and connect all the components including the CPU block, radiator, fans, and pump/reservoir combo without the tubing.
  2. Use a heat gun and the hardline bending toolkit to bend the tubes to the desired shape and secure them down with the fittings.
  3. Fill the loop with coolant and allow it to run for an extended period to test for any leaks.
