OLED vs QD-OLED: Which should you choose?

At CORSAIR, we have several monitors for you to choose from. This starts with screens that use LCD, OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) or recently even QD-OLED (Quantum Dot Organic Light-Emitting Diode) panels.

Most of us know very well what an LCD panel looks and feels like and we know that there are different LCD panels to choose from such as the CORSAIR XENEON 315QHD165 or the CORSAIR XENEON 32UHD144-A. In the last year and a half we have seen the introduction of OLED monitors such as the CORSAIR XENEON FLEX 45WQHD240 and the CORSAIR XENEON 27QHD240 OLED showing us the deepest blacks, the most vibrant colors, and amazing HDR (High Dynamic Range.) PC gaming has never looked better.

With the CORSAIR XENEON 34WQHD240-C as the latest addition to our monitor lineup, we now welcome another technology called QD-OLED (Quantum Dot Organic Light-Emitting Diode). Not only is this another technology to get your head around, but you may be wondering how it differs from OLED.

OLED VS QD-OLED: What's the difference?

OLED and QD-OLED have one important thing in common: each pixel emits its own light, allowing one pixel of the screen to be bright while the adjacent pixels are not even lit, resulting in a deep and pure black. This has an impact on the most important factors of a monitor: contrast ratio, color accuracy, brightness, viewing angle, and refresh rate.

While OLED uses a white OLED layer that passes light through filters to produce red, green, blue and white light, QD-OLED uses a blue-emitting layer that excites Quantum Dots to produce the light needed to create what you ultimately see on the screen. Quantum Dots can be tuned to emit specific wavelengths of light, providing an even better color experience than OLED. The benefits are precise colors, a wider color gamut, and higher peak brightness levels that enhance HDR (High Dynamic Range). In other words, QD OLED takes the already amazing OLED technology and makes it even better.

Whether you choose a monitor with OLED or QD-OLED technology, you can be sure to get the best gaming and productivity experience. You will be amazed at how vibrant the content you are viewing looks when you use a monitor with either technology.
