CORSAIR MP700 PRO vs MP700

In a world where every performance advantage counts, upgrading to a new M.2 drive can make a big difference. With an NVMe 2.0 M.2 drive, you'll see a significant increase in performance when managing large files, loading games, and booting up Windows OS.

Earlier this year, CORSAIR launched the MP700 PCIe 5.0 x4 M.2 SSD. This fast NVMe 2.0 drive offers up impressive performance and supports PCIe 3.0 and PCIe 4.0 systems for wide compatibility and easy to install M.2 form factor SSD. With practically the same compatibility range and form factor, CORSAIR has just launched the MP700 PRO PCIe 5.0 x4 M.2 SSD. Along with an increase in performance, this new drives gives a few more options for cooling as well as increasing the capacities on offer.

Before we lay out the difference between the MP700 PRO and MP700, let’s define some of the basics of SSD technology.

What is NAND?

NAND is a non-volatile flash memory that retains data without being connected to a power source. In contrast, system RAM (or DRAM) requires power to maintain data; every time you power down, you clear data from the DRAM module.

What is 3D TLC?

TLC is an acronym for one of several types of NAND that is capable of storing 3 bits per cell (some store 1, 2, and 4). 3D NAND contains high memory density and is well suited for SSDs. It also lasts longer and consumes less power.

What is the NVMe 2.0 M.2 2280 Form-Factor?

M.2 is an industry-standard form factor, and 2280 means the module is 22mm wide and 80mm long.

NVMe stands for Non-Volatile Memory Express—it's the way data is transferred rather than the physical shape of the drive. NVMe SSDs are the fastest transfer speeds for any SSDs on the consumer market.

So, what is the difference between the MP700 PRO and MP700? There are a few differences between the two models.

  1. The MP700 PRO has three variants while the MP700 only has one as shown below.
  2. The MP700 PRO comes in three capacities while the MP700 comes in two.
  3. MP700 PRO and MP700 have different Read and Write speeds

let’s explore those differences.

Pick your Cooling

MP700 PRO and MP700

  • These drives don't feature any additional cooling and are designed for motherboards that have an M.2 heatsink.
