This guide walks you through the various methods available to check RAM details on a Windows PC.

Using Task Manager

Task Manager is a quick and easy way to check memory usage and speed.

  1. Open Task Manager by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Esc or right-clicking on the taskbar and selecting Task Manager.
  2. Navigate to the Performance tab and select Memory.
  3. Here, you’ll find details such as total memory, memory in use, available memory, and RAM speed.

Using Command Prompt

Command Prompt offers a simple text-based way to retrieve memory details.

  1. Open Command Prompt by pressing Win + R, typing cmd, and pressing Enter.
  2. Type the following command and press Enter:

>wmic memorychip get capacity, speed, manufacturer

3. This will display the RAM’s capacity, speed, and manufacturer.

This method is ideal for users comfortable with command-line interfaces.

For more detailed information, third-party tools like CPU-Z and Corsair iCUE can be useful.

CPU-Z

  1. Download and install CPU-Z from its official website.
  2. Open the software and navigate to the Memory tab.
  3. This will display detailed information, including RAM type (DDR4, DDR5), frequency, and timings.
  4. You can also navigate to SPD tab to get even more detailed information regarding your memory including manufacturer (good as a way to check if you received genuine memory from the seller)

Corsair iCUE (For Corsair RAM users)

  1. Download and install Corsair iCUE.
  2. Navigate to the memory settings to view real-time RAM details and performance monitoring.
  3. iCUE also allows you to customize RGB lighting and tweak RAM settings if you’re using Corsair memory.
