AMD Ryzen 5800X and especially the 5800X3D CPUs are a great upgrade from older processor generations like the 1000, 2000, or even 3000 variants, especially when you are still running any of the older mainboards with AM4 Socket that support upgrading to the 5800X or 5800X3D.
If your system is mainly your gaming station, you know you want that 5800X3D to breathe new life into your system. Will your cooling solution be adequate though? To answer the question: What sort of cooling should you be looking at to tame your brand-new CPU? Let's take a look at the various options for cooling the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X and 5800X3D processors from the many CORSAIR All-In-One watercooling options.
When considering cooling options, you want to learn about the default TDP (Thermal Design Power) of the CPU you are purchasing. You'll need to be able to transfer and exhaust that heat produced from this power draw to keep your CPU temperature as low as possible. Both the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X and the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D have a default TDP of 105W.
These numbers are not set in stone though and realistically we are looking at about 142W that the cooler needs to handle. To dissipate that 142W, you'll need a sufficient radiator surface area. The bigger it is, the more efficiently the processor will be cooled, and the lower the average fan speed will be.
AMD is using the AM4 socket up to the latest 7000 Series of processors, which use the new AM5 socket. This means that you have plenty of options for coolers. It's worth noting though, that your case could be a limiting factor when it comes to choosing a watercooling system. Depending of your case, you may encounter the following limitations:
Most cases will allow to install three 120mm fans in the front, and the iCUE LINK H150i LCD Liquid CPU Cooler offers great cooling capacity thanks to its 360mm radiator and 3x QX120 fans. This AIO cooler not only delivers excellent cooling performance with its 360mm radiator and the pre-applied CORSAIR XTM70 thermal paste, but it also features the same iCUE LINK single-cable system and a 2.1" IPS LCD screen for monitoring temperatures or displaying the latest gif you're a fan of.
Mounting the iCUE LINK H100i RGB Liquid CPU Cooler either in the front or in the top of a mid-sized or even smaller case should be no problem. The 240mm radiator size of this AIO cooler is sufficient to cool the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X and 5800X3D while delivering good cooling performance. As our top pick, this cooler also has pre-applied CORSAIR XTM70 thermal paste and features iCUE LINK for a clean single-cable system to power the AIO watercoolers pump and fans.
Should you want to upgrade to the LCD variant at a later point, we do have the iCUE LINK LCD Screen Module ready for you. Installation could not be easier and we have an article about everything you need to know about the iCUE LINK LCD AIO COOLERS AND iCUE LINK LCD UPGRADE KIT.
Looking for a more cost-effective solution without the need to control all via the iCUE Software out-of-the-box, then the iCUE H100x RGB ELITE Liquid CPU Cooler is a great option. You will have to connect a few more cables with this cooler, but installation is still easy and straightforward. Should you want to gain iCUE control at a later point, we have this helpful article for you to read up on: HOW TO CONTROL RGB ELITE AND RGB SERIES COOLERS WITH iCUE
To find the cooler, which is compatible with your CPU socket, we have made a tool that will help ensure you don't run into problems once your shiny new AIO cooler arrives. Check out our guide on how to use it.
To use the tool, you'll be asked what CPU you have, what case you're building in, and also what graphics card you're packing. This is so we can check compatibility for you, and so that you do not end up in a situation where your new AIO cooler will not fit into your case because your graphics card is too long.
Another option would be to build a Custom Cooling Loop, you'll be able to reach even better performance than with an AIO cooler. It will also look incredible, although we'd admit will take a bit more effort than an AIO.
Whatever cooling option you're looking for, you'll find CORSAIR has something for you.
