How to connect multiple 12V-2x6 cables to a PSU

Connecting multiple 12V-2x6 cables to a CORSAIR power supply is simple. All you need is the right number and type of cables, and of course you need to make sure that you have enough power from your PSU to meet the needs of all the components in your system. If you are wondering how a 12VHPWR and a 12V-2x6 cable are any different from another, we have this helpful article ready for you to read. (Spoiler alert, there is no difference.)

What type of cable should you use?

The first thing you need to do is find out what type of cable your power supply uses. There are Type 4 and Type 5 cables for CORSAIR power supplies, and information on which cable your unit uses can be found on the modular side of your power supply, in the product manual, on the product page on the CORSAIR website, or on the unit's packaging.

Here is a quick overview of the cable types used in our latest models:

RM, RMx, RMe, HX, HXi – Type 4

RMx Shift, SF, SF-L – Type 5

Which connectors and cables should you use on a CORSAIR power supply with Type 4 sockets?

Type 4 PSU RMx

RMx 2024 model with native 12V-2x6 connector and multiple Type 4 CPU / PCIe connectors

Above you can see the latest CORSAIR RMx (2024) power supply series. This unit has a native 12V-2x6 connector and comes with the necessary cable to connect a graphics card to the connector and can deliver up to 600W of power to it. To connect another graphics card with 12V-2x6 connector you will need to purchase another cable that will plug into any combination of the available CPU / PCIe connectors. The Type 4 adapter cable will use two of these sockets. We have also written a great article for you called "Native 12V-2x6 vs 8-pin to 12V-2x6 - what is the difference" which explains how the cable can deliver the necessary power from just two of the sockets on the power supply side.

Here are the options available for Type 4 cables:

The difference between the cables is the cable sleeve and the direction of the 12V-2x6 connector. The first two options have a straight connector, while the last option has a 90° angled connector where the angle is either up for style A or down for style B. The 90° angled cables can also deliver up to 600W.

Which connectors and cables should you use on a CORSAIR power supply with Type 5 sockets?

Type 5 RMx Shift

RMx Shift model with multiple Type 5 CPU / PCIe connectors

Here we have our popular CORSAIR RMx Shift power supply unit, with the modular connectors moved to the side of the unit for easy assembly and upgrades. This unit uses Type-5 micro-fit connectors and comes with an adapter cable to convert two of them to a 12V-2x6 connector.

To add another graphics card with a 12V-2x6 connector you have to use one of these Type 5 cables:

Sleeved Type 5
Angled Style-A -B Type 5

The first option has a straight 12V-2x6 connector and individually sleeved cables, and the last option has a 90° angled connector where the angle is either up for style A or down for style B. The 90° angled cables can also deliver up to 600W.
