9000D vs 1000D: What's New?

The new 9000D is an extreme case. It may not be for everyone, but those dedicated to its younger sibling, the 1000D, have been waiting for this for a long time. Long time fans will notice that many of the feature and design considerations from the 1000D have found their way into the new sleek and modern 9000D but it wouldn’t be a proper successor without a few upgrades. Here’s a quick comparison of the 1000D and 9000D.

Motherboard Support

The 1000D was built to be the ultimate case for any PC you could dream of, but there’s more to PCs than big consumer grade gear. The 9000D is designed to go beyond PC enthusiast and into workstation territory. With support for SSI EEB and CEB boards, the 9000D can fit server grade boards with multiple CPUs and hundreds of gigabytes of RAM. This makes the 9000D an attractive option to a whole new audience of start-ups and small businesses.

But if you are looking to keep consumer grade gear in your 9000D, there are still plenty of new features you can play with. Just like the 2500, 3500, and 6500 series cases, the 9000D supports reverse connector motherboards for an ultra-clean look in a spacious case.

More Power, More Flow

One of the struggles of modernizing the 1000D is having to accommodate all the changes that have happened to hardware over the past few years. While the ridiculous size and weight of modern graphics cards are not too hard to deal with in an already massive case, the heat generated by more powerful CPUs and GPUs requires more cooling.

The top InfiniRail system can now hold up to eight fans out of the box, encouraging builders to add more fans for added exhaust. But while the new mounting point above the main motherboard can support a 360mm radiator and three 120mm fans, the real performance enhancement comes from the mesh front panel. The 1000D’s glass front did have a sizable gap for air to pass through, but the 9000D’s stylized metal plate is designed for airflow first. Similarly, the top of the case has a similar form but with the glass simply removed.

Modern Speed and Control

Small but simple updates are found around the case. Even the USB standard has improved since the 1000D. Although the port count is the same, everything is now on the USB 3.2 standard to maximize speed for all your USB devices. And the hint of ARGB around the ports is still there but now controlled with our newer iCUE LINK system. Instead of coming with a Commander Pro, the 9000D comes with an iCUE LINK Hub to get you started in the LINK ecosystem.

As the successor, the 9000D has clear inspiration from the 1000D. The rest of the case is largely the same with a large removeable drive cage in the center, room for two PSUs in the rear, and the secondary power switch in the back. Even the double doors in the rear are back. We’re excited to see what you guys and gals can come up with for this case.
