What to look for in a power supply cable or accessory
Look closely at your PSU, then consider the following as you’re browsing for accessories:
- Cable type: Check for whether you need a primary ATX connector, PCIE, P4/EPS, or something else.
- Design considerations: Browse different sleeving colors, LED options, and cable lengths to dial in the cable management and visual look of your PC’s PSU.
- Extras and bundles: Check if you just need a connector part (like a comb kit) or a bundle of cables to get started quickly.
What are the different types of cables for a PC power supply?
There are a lot of different cables to go to and from your PC’s PSU and other components. First, the main power-supply 20+4 pin or 4 + 4 ATX connector connects to the motherboard and is generally thought of as the main connector. The EPS (sometimes called “P4”) connector delivers power to your CPU module. Then you’ll find SATA and PCIE connectors that work most commonly with drives and graphics cards, respectively. There are some less common connectors like Molex that can also be adapted for other cable types like the SATA cable. There’s a lot of variety out there, though, so be sure to look closely at the specs of your components and match them to the cable you’re browsing—and be sure to try the handy filters on this page or check out our step-by-step custom PC builder.
