What to look for in a CPU cooler
CPU coolers need to be paired perfectly with your computer’s components, so here are a few things to keep in mind:
- Cooling socket compatibility: Numbers denoting what socket size they fit, general ranging from 1150 up to 2011.
- Radiator size: The exhaust fan array’s size needs to fit the slot you’ve got in your case, from 120 millimeters up to 420 millimeters.
- Lighting: Most of CORSAIR’s coolers bring some form of RGB lighting customization.
- LCD displays: Some coolers come with LCD displays built right in to check on temperature readouts.
What’s the difference between air, liquid, water, and AIO coolers?
There are a lot of terms thrown around to denote the cooling system in your PC. A water cooler is traditionally associated with the custom cooler tubing you see on battlestation-style PC builds. CORSAIR liquid coolers are single units that combine liquid-filled tubing and exhaust fans so you can easily just plug and play. “AIO” denotes that the CPU cooling unit is “all in one” and is designed to work with premium effectiveness right out of the box. How does this all compare to air cooling? In general, CPU air coolers have longer warranties and less components that could fail, but are slower to cool your CPU than liquid and water-based cooling.
