Why you should get the widest desk you can

PC gamers are prone to concentrate on the more performance-critical parts of their setup. They want to build or buy the latest, fastest PC, they need the most advanced gaming mouse, the most tactile mechanical keyboard, the most accurate spatial audio headset.

All of this is fine of course, but much too often we see all this impressive and expensive tech squeezed onto a desk that’s way too small. The mouse is stuck in a claustrophobically small gap between the keyboard and the edge. The PC, relegated to the ground, has its airflow suffocated by carpet. pints of beer or cans of energy drink are positioned perilously close to the fast-moving hand of an overzealous Valorant player.

The fix, of course, is to get a wider desk. In our not so humble opinion, you need the widest desk you can fit in your current situation. Conveniently, we’ve just announced the Corsair Platform:6 range of desks. In addition to being just plain wide at 72”, they also have a 30” depth, meaning you’ve got plenty of space for everything you’ll need on a desk. (More details to follow very soon)

Benefits of a wide desk

The most apparent benefit of a wide desk where gamers are concerned is the enlargement of usable mouse space. Many gamers, particularly FPS players, use a low DPI, meaning that the mouse must be physically moved further for any given in-game movement. A wider desk means that you can have more space between the items on said desk. This allows for a larger mouse pad, eliminating the possibility of running the mouse into anything, or off the mouse pad entirely.

It's also worth mentioning here that bigger desks can have benefits outside of gaming. People who work from home or stream are often in need of desk space for microphones, cameras, and laptops. Simply put, regardless of the application, the larger the desk, the more utility it has.

Of course, a wider desk also allows space for the PC itself. This is particularly good as keeping a PC on the ground is an egregious sin in our world, as it causes the PC to take in far more dust, cat hair, and other substances not conducive to system performance. Additionally, those with carpets might even block some of the intake at the bottom of the case, preventing airflow to critical components like the power supply.

A desk with surplus width means that you can move the PC onto the desk. This has benefits other than extending the life of the PC, it also allows for more convenient access to the ports, and easier cable management. Additionally, aesthetically incredible systems, like those built with iCUE LINK products, shouldn’t be hidden under the desk. Do you and your PC a favor and show it off on top of the desk.
